Did Robinson Cano take subtle shot at Yankees by growing out beard?

The Seattle Mariners introduced high-priced free agent acquisition Robinson Cano today, which included a photo on Twitter showing Cano in his new uniform, wearing #22.

But if you looked a little closer, something that may have been initially overlooked by many, Cano was wearing something you’ve likely never seen him in.

A beard.

No big deal, right? Well, as you may or may not be aware, the New York Yankees have an extremely tight policy on facial hair. A bit silly? Of course, but the Yankees can do as they wish and if they want to deal with ramifications of not signing players due to facial hair requirements (say like Brian Wilson), that’s their decision.

They certainly didn’t lose Cano over a facial hair policy, though, it was a bit funny to see Cano making his first ‘official’ public appearance as a Mariner come complete with a newly minted beard. Coincidence or not, Cano certainly picked an interesting time to show off the new look.
