The Weber State Wildcats announced on Thursday that Jay Hill will be the team’s new head coach.
Hill, who played at Ricks College before transferring to Utah, was a graduate and administrative assistant for the Utes from 2001-2004. He then became a full-time coach when Kyle Whittingham was named Utah’s head coach in 2005. Since then, Hill has worked mainly as Utah’s special teams coordinator, but he’s also had brief stints coaching various position groups for the team.
Weber State athletic director Jerry Bovee, who dismissed previous head coach Jody Sears on November 26, explained what the school is looking for in a new head coach:
We’re looking for someone who wants to be here with the resources and the facilities and all that we offer here, someone that understands a little about Weber State, the program’s history and the community and how to recruit here, someone who wants in-state kids in our program, and someone who can show us their vision of how the program should be. … We’re proud of what we have here (Desert News).
Fun tidbit: Hill was selected 132nd in the 2001 XFL Draft by the Orlando Rage.
