On Thursday night at the College Football Awards, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and Alabama’s A.J. McCarron were awaiting the results of the 2013 Maxwell Award to hear who would be named the college football player of the year.
Many expected that Winston would take home the award, considering he is the clear favorite to take home the Heisman Trophy, but the results came in and everyone was surprised — even the winner.
A.J. McCarron was called out as the winner of the Maxwell and his mouth dropped in awe as the crowd began to applaud.
It was a priceless reaction, as you can see below, as McCarron gathered himself and eventually made his way to the stage to accept the award after a brief stop and embrace with his head coach Nick Saban.
While McCarron may not have been the favorite to take home the award, he was very deserving and happy to receive the honor.
To top things off, he looked pretty fancy with the purple bow tie.
