Chael Sonnen was the first man to remind us all that former UFC champion Anderson Silva was still human. The two men sparked one of the greatest rivalries in mixed martial arts and had their public beef that made Sonnen public enemy No. 1 in Brazil, but now he is trying to embrace Silva as he prepares for a coaching stint on season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.
Sonnen had previously said that he would like to add his former rival to his coaching staff for the show, and now he has officially extended an invitation to Silva to see if the former champ would be willing to help out his coaching staff for the show.
Chael Sonnen is a man of his word.
Weeks after saying he would like to invite his long-time rival Anderson Silva to be a part of his TUF: Brazil coaching staff, Sonnen told MMAFighting.com Thursday night that, “I have officially invited Anderson to coach TUF: Brazil as part of my staff.”
Sonnen said he reached out to Silva’s manager Ed Soares to extend the offer, and that Soares said, “I’ll talk to Anderson and get back to you.”
Of course, Silva is currently preparing for his UFC 168 main event match up with current champion Chris Weidman, so he has plenty on his plate and is not focusing on a TUF coaching stint, but that could all change.
After his Dec. 28 fight, Silva could embrace the opportunity of calling a truce with Sonnen and joining forces to help some of the young Brazilian talent in the sport fine tune their skills as they battle it out for the TUF: Brazil 3 crown.
If Silva expects, it will certainly add a new dynamic to the show.
