Lakers' Pau Gasol expresses frustration with D’Antoni offense

Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol has seen his production decline in head coach Mike D’Antoni’s offense. He thinks that his perimeter based offense is preventing him from being the threat he can. He particularly feels that his skills and preference for playing in the post are being wasted.

From Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times:

“The fact that I’m not getting the ball in the post affects directly my aggressiveness,” he said. “When I’m not getting the ball where I want to, where I’m most effective, where I can bang guys and utilize my skill, that affects my aggressiveness and overall intensity….

“This year hasn’t been ideal, certain things are not ideal for me, but that’s not going to change any time soon,” he said.

D’Antoni had a response Gasol’s claims.

“I can’t lie to him… Our numbers tell us the worst thing we do is post up,” he said.

“He can always move closer to the basket,” D’Antoni said, via Mark Medina of theLos Angeles Daily News. “That’s on him. He needs to dive and we need to get the ball into him. He needs to go where he feels comfortable.”
