Cody McKenzie was backstage at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, CA, getting ready to fight Sam Stout on FOX Sports 1, when he discovered a very important piece of gear missing – his fight shorts. Supposedly, they were left back in his hotel, and with the minutes counting down until Cody had to step foot in the Octagon, a team member was sent to go nab some simple shorts from a local store.

And so, Cody McKenzie fought valiantly against Sam Stout on FOX Sports 1, losing a decision, and possibly losing an in-policy return for a pair of board shorts when Herb Dean tore off the still-attached sales tag.

Sam Stout spoke to the MMA Junkie about this weird occurrence:

“Cody is a rare character,” Stout said. “Thank God I had a veteran referee in Herb Dean. He didn’t even stop the action, just yanked the tags off.”
