The game was tied at halftime, and Illinois worked up a 50-41 lead with 13:15 to go in the game. Oregon went on a 13-4 run to eliminate the nine-point deficit at 7:02.
The Ducks went ahead 58-54 after a Joseph Young jumper with 6:07 to go. However, the Fighting Illini answered with a tip shot and a three-pointer after an Oregon turnover to lead by one point at 3:37. Oregon showed resilience down the stretch, scoring on six of their final seven possessions to win by seven points.
Despite committing 16 turnovers, the Ducks won shooting 55.8% from the field. The Illini shot a mediocre 42.9% from the field, and were outrebounded 31-27.
Oregon top performers: Forward Mike Moser scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards. Guard Joseph Young netted 14 points along with five rebounds and two assists. Forward Elgin Cook scored 12 points and collected three rebounds. Guard Johnathan Loyd dished out seven dimes and scored 11 points. Guard Damyean Dotson scored 10 points with three rebounds and two dimes.
Illinois top performers: Guard Tracy Abrams scored 16 points along with four boards and five assists. Guard Rayvonte Rice finished with 16 points and four rebounds. Forward Jon Ekey netted 10 points and grabbed eight boards.
