NBA rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers not interested in trading for Omer Asik

If you believe the rumor mill, the Houston Rockets are likely to trade center Omer Asik before Christmas.

One such team that was reported to have initial interest in acquiring Asik were the Cleveland Cavaliers, however, according to the Akron Journal, the interest was overstated and the Cavs are not going to be trading for the unhappy big man:

Asik will be moved next week and if the Rockets need a third team to get involved, the Cavs would listen. But Asik won’t be coming to Cleveland.

It’s an understandable stance considering the Cavaliers plunked down money in the offseason for Andrew Bynum and have Anderson Varejao on the roster, though, Asik would seemingly fill a need.

Regardless, assuming the report is true, it’s one less suitor in the Asik sweepstakes which doesn’t seem as hot as many assumed it would be.

A strong defensive talent, Asik certainly can clog up the middle but with a strangely figured contract that will cost the acquiring team more out-of-pocket money than will actually be on the books and suspect offense, teams might not be clamoring out the door to bring the center on board.
