In the main event of the evening, Demetrious Johnson will put his Flyweight belt on the line once again against Team Alpha Male product, Joseph Benavidez.
These men first met back at UFC 152 in the UFC’s inaugural Flyweight championship. The fight was marked by Johnson’s speed and takedowns versus the power punching of Benavidez. The most substantial stat from their first fight was the five takedowns landed by Johnson, compared to zero from Benavidez. In the end, Johnson walked away as the first ever UFC Flyweight champion with a split decision victory.
Since then, both men have been dominant over their respective opponents. Johnson has defended his belt twice against John Dodson and John Moraga. Benavidez is on a three fight winning streak, with the last two coming by way of TKO/KO.
Will Benavidez be able to close the distance on the quicker Johnson? Will Johnson be able to take Benavidez down at will once again? All of our questions are about to be answered.
