On any given night, Tuukka Rask is typically one of the best netminders in the world. He had a rough outing last evening when the Boston Bruins took on the Vancouver Canucks though. With the game tied at zero and time winding down in the first period, Vancouver forward Jannik Hansen decided to launch a puck at Rask from 90 feet out.
The result is as surprising to us as it is to Rask.
That goal ended up really setting the tone for the contest from that point on. Rask would go on to give up three goals, allowing four on 23 shots while only managing to stop 19 of them. That was Jansen’s fifth tally of the year, and his second in three contests.
Vancouver would eventually go on to defeat the B’s via a 6-2 final. That’s a big win for the Canucks, as the Bruins are one of the better teams in the NHL. Rask spoke to reporters after the game about his performance, and TheSpec.com quoted the netminder:
I’m not going to make any excuses. I was pretty bad today. I thought we played a good game as a team. I wasn’t able to help too much.
Boston will get another crack at Vancouver on February 4, 2014.
