Scouts that got a chance to see top-end prospect Valeri Nichushkin play prior to being drafted sometimes compared him to Evgeni Malkin. While that’s a lofty comparison, the Dallas Stars rookie showed why that particular contrast makes a lot of sense last night. He walked around an entire Winnipeg Jets line before scoring a sensational goal on Ondrej Pavelec.
That’s a remarkable play by a very special young forward. Longtime NHLers aren’t typically able to just lean on defensemen and plow their way to the net like that, but Nichushkin saw the hole at the blue line and exploited it in a big way. His hands and speed are both on display here, and he impressed pundits from around the league with his tally.
Val Nichushkin might just be the fastest player in the NHL. He’s definitely right up there with Michael Grabner as far as speed goes.

Nichushkin’s goal from yesterday. He’s a top-end skater at the NHL level. http://t.co/r7zWf3WnTF

Nichushkin’s goal was just one part of an offensive eruption for Dallas. They scored six goals against the Jets total, with Tyler Seguin coming up with another monster individual game for the team.
