This morning, the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced the nominations for The 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. According to the press release, the winners will be announced live at the awards ceremony on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
The BFCA is the largest film critics association in the United States and Canada, representing more than 280 television, radio, and online critics.
This year’s show will be hosted by actress/comedian/talk show host extraordinaire Aisha Tyler. Tyler is well known for her voice acting skills on the hit FX series Archer. She also hosts the online podcast Girl on Guy, co-hosts the Emmy-nominated talk show The Talk, and is the newly appointed host of the improv show Whose Lin is it Anyway?
There are currently 10 films nominated in the Best Picture category. This category features everything from the tale of how Walt Disney brought the classic tale Mary Poppins to the big screen to one man’s real life journey from being sold into slavery through means of deception and the road to his eventual freedom.
Both American Hustle and 12 Years A Slave are highly favored at this year’s ceremony. These two films lead the pack in regards to nominations with 13 nods a piece. Gravity came in at a close second with ten nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Director, and two nods for actress Sandra Bullock.
Martin Scorsese’s biopic about the life of Wall Street stockbroker Jordan Belfort, The Wolf of Wall Street, Spike Jonze’s film Her, Paul Greengrass’ real life biopic about Captain Richard Phillips entitled Captain Phillips, and Alexander Payne’s film Nebraska each received six nominations.
The 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will be hosted by Aisha Tyler and will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The ceremony will be broadcast live on The CW Network at 8:00 p.m. EST.
