Floyd, despite coming off an injury received a vast amount of interest though it wasn’t until this past weekend when things heated up.
The veteran arm was reportedly in deep talks with multiple teams but a ‘mystery’ team swooped in during last minute negotiations. That mystery team was the Atlanta Braves, who signed Floyd to a one-year, $4 million dollar deal Monday morning:
Gavin Floyd has passed physical and agreed to deal with
#braves. He’ll make $4M base and can earn $4.5M more in incentives.
Floyd is recovering from Tommy John surgery so the contract isn’t without risk, though after passing his physical and the team only committing for one season, it’s one worth taking.
The 30-year-old pitcher has been with the Chicago White Sox since 2007, pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies prior to that. He’ll return to the National League East with a career 4.48 ERA.
