‘Breaking Bad’ Spin-Off ‘Better Call Saul’ Coming to Netflix in 2014 Following Its Release on AMC

It would seem that Netflix’s grasp on the online streaming market gets bigger and bigger every single day. Earlier today, Netflix and Sony Pictures Television announced that Better Call Saul, the highly anticipated spin-off of Breaking Bad will be made exclusively to streaming members in Europe and Latin America shortly after its airing in the U.S.

The complete first season of Better Call Saul will be available in the U.S. and Canada after the season finale airs on AMC Networks. Thanks to this deal, Netflix is now the exclusive subscription television service in all of its territories for Better Call Saul and in certain markets for its predecessor Breaking Bad.

In the press release issued today, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos explains why this move was so important to Netflix.

‘Breaking Bad’ is widely recognized as one of the great TV experiences in this new golden age of television,” he said. “It has also proven very popular with Netflix subscribers around the world. This spin-off promises to continue its tradition of powerful storytelling. We are proud to be in business with Sony Pictures Television to bring Saul Goodman to our subscribers around the world.”

The series, which is scheduled to begin on AMC in 2014, follows the trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk, in the time leading up to establishing his strip mall law office in Albuquerque, New Mexico; well before he became the lawyer of Walter White.

At this point, Saul handles it all; everything from the simplest of parking tickets to mass murder, Saul is your man.

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan will serve as co-creator and executive producer for Better Call Saul.

A move like this could mean big things for Netflix. As of late, the streaming service has been taking great measures to expand their catalog, and has been striking exclusive deals with studios like Walt Disney to provide streaming services for their films and series. A deal like this, involving a series as highly regarded as Breaking Bad and as highly anticipated as its spin off Better Call Saul could definitely serve to increase interest in the ever growing brand.
