Gardner Webb at Duke: game preview

The Gardner Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs take on the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, NC.  The game will be aired live on ESPNU at 7 pm ET.

The Blue Devils are 7-2, and have not proven much to earn their No. 8 ranking. They are 1-2 against ranked opponents.  Duke may be a great team, but must win more games against tougher opponents before their ranking should be taken seriously.

Duke will rely heavily on freshman forward Jabari Parker, who is averaging 22.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.  He has been spectacular for the Blue Devils hitting 54.8% from the field, and 46.7% of three-balls.  Sophomore forward Rodney Hood is option 1A averaging 19.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Hood is also a great shooter hitting 58.9% from the field, and 53.6% from long range.  Junior Guard Quinn Cook does an excellent job getting the shooters the ball averaging 6.3 assists and 14.6 points per contest.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs are led by senior guard Naji Hibbert and junior forward Donta Harper.  Both players are averaging around 12 points per game.  Junior guard Tyler Strange facilitates the offense averaging 6.1 assists and 8.6 points per game.

The Blue Devils are clearly the favorite, but if Gardner Webb (6-5) limits Parker and Hood on offense, they will have a chance at the end of the game.
