Veteran infielder Eric Chavez had a bit of a resurgence with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season, hitting .281 with 9 home runs and 44 RBI in just 80 games. Those numbers came off a solid 2012 campaign with the New York Yankees, numbers that were a bit shocking considering Chavez looked to be headed towards the retirement line just a few seasons ago.
Dealing with a rash of injuries, the long time Oakland Athletics third baseman had contemplated hanging up the cleats before the Yankees gave him an opportunity – an opportunity he ran with in Arizona as well.
That has lead to Chavez becoming a hot commodity during free agency with multiple teams expressing interest in the 36-year-old veteran. One team interested in bringing back Chavez are the Yankees, though, they’re going to have stiff competition considering the D’Backs have reportedly made it a ‘priority‘ to retain Chavez:
#Dbacks still want a starter but that’s likely to come via free agency. Bringing Eric Chavez back has become a priority. Tanaka?
