MLB rumors: Yankees have ‘no intention’ of trading Brett Gardner

Despite adding both Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran to their roster, the New York Yankees remain publicly committed to keeping Brett Gardner.

The speedy outfielder was thought to be an obvious trade candidate considering New York’s additions (and a roster that is stacked with outfielders) but the team has already reportedly declined an offer from the Cincinnati Reds for Gardner and Sunday said they have ‘absolutely no intention‘ of trading the outfielder:

The Yankees have “absolutely no intention” of trading Brett Gardner to clear room in center field for Jacoby Ellsbury or to fill a need elsewhere, according to team president Randy Levine.

Gardner is a solid player and does fit a role for the Yankees, though, it’s a bit of a strange stance considering he’s one of their few available trade assets and the Bronx Bombers still have holes to fill.

Of course, things can change in the coming weeks and months but right now, it appears Gardner will be opening the season in New York.
