UFC featherweight Conor McGregor burst onto the scene in 2013 and he was impressive in his debut on the big stage. In fact, McGregor was so impressive that he has become one of the most hyped fighters in mixed martial arts and landed on Ireland’s Most Searched Athletes list.
As Google conducted their year in review, McGregor topped the list of the most searched athletes in Ireland, which is a huge accomplishment for a country that has so much interest in soccer and rugby.
It also speaks volumes about the growth of MMA in Ireland and the star power that McGregor could have if he continues racking up the wins inside of the octagon.
McGregor edged out soccer star Gareth Bale and Olympian Oscar Pistorious in the Google search trends and now he will hope to continue building off of his popularity heading in to 2014.
McGregor is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL that he suffered in his most recent fight, but he is making progress in his rehab and he hopes to return in time to make an appearance on the UFC’s upcoming card in Dublin, which will be a big draw.
