The South Carolina Gamecocks landed a commitment from four-star defensive end Dante Sawyer on Tuesday.
Sawyer, who is listed at 6’3 and 240 lbs., chose the Gamecocks over the two teams that played for the SEC Championship, the Missouri Tigers and Auburn Tigers.
Sawyer is considered the 134th best player in the country, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings. He is considered the seventh-best weakside defensive end and the eighth-best player in the state of Georgia for the class of 2013.
“I picked them because of the school,” Sawyer told Wes Mitchel of 24/7 Sports. “They have one of the top business schools, which is what I want to major in. I like being in Cola and just everything about South Carolina.
Sawyer attends North Gwinnett High School in Suwanne, Georgia.
Sawyer was sold on the Gamecocks after he visited the school last month for the Mississippi State game.
“It was crazy. I loved it,” Sawyer told 24/7 sports two weeks ago. “I love being in Columbia. I’m going to go back for my official visit. It opened my eyes a lot seeing everything they have to offer.”
