The Philadelphia Flyers are taking on the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night and there was a big hit out of no where. There were a couple of Flyers players fighting for the puck with a Capitals player in the corner.
The puck kind of slips out to Brayden Schenn of the Flyers near the bottom of the circle. He skates towards the boards behind the net to begin a clear. When he gets the puck, Tom Wilson of the Capitals isn’t in the frame.
Wilson comes in flying with a full head of steam and lays into Schenn who is a few feet from the boards at this point. Schenn turned his back to Wilson as he was coming in but that didn’t deter Wilson who ran into Schenn anyways.
Schenn flies head first into the boards. He lays there for a moment before getting up and trying to skate off only to collapse again. His teammates quickly stand up for him and go after Wilson.
Wilson got five minutes for fighting, five minutes for charging, and a game misconduct penalty. You could expect the league to hand down some extra punishments. Schenn did not return to the game and the team ruled him out with an “upper-body injury.”
