The LSU Tigers landed one of the top linebackers in the country Tuesday when they got a commitment from Clifton Garrett.
Garrett, a 6’2, 228 lb. linebacker out of Plainfield South High School in Plainfield, Illinois, chose the Tigers over the Florida Gators, Ole Miss Rebels and Tennessee Volunteers, among others.
“I just love Baton Rouge,” Garrett told Derek Tyson and Tom VanHaaren on Tuesday. “The game-day atmosphere is amazing and the people down there are great. The school itself has great academics, and LSU is in the running to win a national championship every year.”
Garrett is considered the 28th best overall prospect in 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings and is the top-rated outside linebacker. ESPN considers Garrett to be an inside linebacker.
“I felt like the coaching staff was just phenomenal,” Garrett told 24/7 Sports. “You can’t pick a school off the coaching staff, but it made my decision a lot easier knowing I’m going to a place where I’m going to be taken care of by a great coaching staff, great guys that want to develop me not only as a player but as a man. They have my best interest 100 percent. I’m going to be going 14 hours away from the house, so it’s going to be great to know I’m going to a place where I feel at home and have people I can talk to if certain situations arise, or if I need something I can go to my coach.”
