UConn at Duke: game preview

The No. 1 UConn Huskies take on the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.  The game will be aired live at 7:00 pm ET on ESPN 2.

Tonight’s matchup is part of the Jimmy V Women’s Classic, and features the premiere women’s college basketball teams in the country.

UConn is led by sophomore forward Breanna Stewart, who is averaging 17.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.  Senior guard Bria Hartley averages 15.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game.  Center Stefanie Dolson is the inside presence averaging 14.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.  The Huskies have a well-balanced team that has beaten every opponent by at least 17 points this season.

Duke is led by senior guard Tricia Liston, who is averaging 18.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.  Sophomore guard Alexis Jones averages 14.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per contest.  Senior guard Chelsea Gray is the lead facilitator at 8.4 assists per game, and senior forward Haley Peters is the leading rebounder at 8.7 rebounds per game.

Duke recently had a close game at No. 17 Oklahoma, but escaped Norman, Oklahoma with a 94-85 victory.

UConn has the edge tonight, but if the game is close in the final seconds, the home court advantage may put the Dukies in position to win the game.
