Dan Ellis made 25 saves last night as the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche, and none of them were bigger than his glove stop on Gabriel Landeskog in the third period. With less than five minutes to go in the final frame and Colorado buzzing around the net on a power play, Paul Stastny gets the puck behind the net.
After the forward knocks a pass from his teammate out of the air, he centers the biscuit to Landeskog. Colorado’s captain doesn’t hesitate with the shot, but Ellis somehow manages to get a glove on it.
Landeskog may only have nine goals on the year, but he possesses an outstanding and accurate shot. He just couldn’t beat Ellis for the go-ahead goal though. The save would end up turning the tide of the hockey game, and the Stars would get a big goal from Colton Sceviour with less than three minutes remaining to win the contest.
This win sealed a bit of revenge for Dallas, who had been taken apart by the Avalanche 24 hours prior in Colorado by a 6-2 final. It was a wildly entertaining affair from start to finish, American Airlines Center was rocking and there was nearly a playoff atmosphere as the third period wore on.
