Alliance MMA’s head coach, Eric Del Fierro wants Phil Davis to return to action in early 2014, according to UFC Tonight. Del Fierro also mentioned that he is interested in seeing Phil Davis fight Shogun Rua.

UFC Tonight tweeted the news earlier:

Phil Davis is currently riding a three fight winning streak, and is one of the last UFC Light Heavyweight prospects that have yet to fight Jon Jones. In the relatively thin division, it is very likely that Davis could get a title shot with a victory over another marquee opponent. Davis has not fought since August at UFC 163, where he defeated Lyoto Machida by unanimous decision. That fight turned out to be very controversial, as many had the fight scored for Machida.

Shogun Rua looked to be at the doorstep of retirement before facing James Te-Huna at UFC Fight Night 33. He was 1-3 in his last four fights, and had looked sluggish in every outing. After a vintage KO victory in the first round over Te-Huna, it looks like Shogun is right back into contention. If these men do eventually fight, it could possibly main event a UFC Fight Night.
