On Wednesday, reports surfaced that UFC light heavyweight Chael Sonnen had an emergency colonoscopy 24 hours prior to his fight with Rashad Evans in the co-main event of UFC 167. Sonnen fought at the event, which led to the immediate belief that there was no way he could have underwent the procedure and been cleared to fight.

After digging through the reports and rumors, the UFC has confirmed that Sonnen did not undergo the surgery and the Nevada State Athletic Commission passed along the news.

“I checked with the UFC. They verified with Chael and his team that he did not have any surgery prior to the Rashad Evans fight,” NSAC director Keith Kizer told Deadspin. “According to Chael, the interviewer asked him a question and Chael, coyly, didn’t answer him directly as the article clearly states, and the interviewer inferred that the answer to his question was in the affirmative.”

If the report of surgery would have been true, it would have been awfully troubling and a black mark for the NSAC.

Luckily, it looks like TSN’s Michael Landsberg was just trolling his audience.
