For weeks now, Samsung has been putting together a team of the 11 best players in the world on a team called the “GALAXY 11″ to take on a threatening alien race in a “winner takes all” match.
Throughout the series, they released videos selecting players. The first was Lionel Messi of Barcelona, who was also named captain. The final selection video was Portugal and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
“We are excited to welcome Lionel Messi as the captain of the GALAXY 11 team and invite the world to join us as we enter the ‘recruitment’ chapter of this fantasy-inspired story,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics. “At Samsung, creativity is at the core of everything we do. GALAXY 11 extends our legacy of developing multi-layered, 360-degree campaigns that are both entertaining and engaging. We encourage fans to follow this fantasy meets reality campaign, as we introduce more ways for fans to get closer to their favorite sport and players.”
They have released a new video that elaborates on the stories of the selections, this one is four minutes long.. Most of the other videos were 15 seconds long roughly. Of course the video shows the GALAXY 11, using Samsung Galaxy devices to receive calls from manager Franz Beckenbauer.
“This match will be unlike anything we have ever witnessed before and I expect that the form of football we encounter will be far different than what we know here on Earth,” Beckenbauer said.
The players are ready for the challenge and honor.
“It’s a great honor to be selected for the team alongside some of the world’s greatest football players,” Manchester United and England’s Wayne Rooney said. “Hopefully I’ll be able to bring my qualities and English spirit to the team and 2014 is going to be a huge year for me with club, country and now the Galaxy 11, so keep watching.”
This video is just the first of more to come and fan participation will be key going forward.
“We’ve assembled a ‘dream team’ of top-class players from around the world to join the Galaxy 11 campaign and help bring this story to life across various channels and Galaxy devices,” Lee said.. “As the story continues to unfold, fans participation will become even more vital to our campaign. We are looking forward to bringing our passionate fans closer to the Galaxy 11 team and story through a series of upcoming socially-driven and interactive initiatives.”
