There has been a lot of tension within the Washington Redskins organization over head coach Mike Shanahan. He is apparently at odds with starting quarterback, currently demoted to the bench, Robert Griffin III and owner Dan Snyder. Former Redskins head coach Marty Schottenheimer praised Shanahan.

“I’ve said it for years and been on record for years,” Schottenheimer began. “There’s not a better coach in the National Football League than Mike Shanahan.”

Shanahan hasn’t won a Super Bowl since his Denver Broncos days with John Elway. That hasn’t deterred Schottenheimer from the Shanahan bandwagon.

“I still believe that. Absolutely,” Schottenheimer said. “I’m not going to change that, for all the years I’ve competed against him. That doesn’t change on the basis of his current situation and this (RGIII) incident alone. I’m a big Mike Shanahan fan.”

If the Redskins do part ways with Shanahan, he thinks the coach will be just fine.

“If it doesn’t work, he’ll get another job,” he said. “And he’ll do well, too.”
