Texas to use eight-man committee to find next coach

The second that the Texas Longhorns were defeated by the Ole Miss Rebels, handing them a second straight loss after they were embarrassed by the BYU Cougars a week earlier, it looked like head coach Mack Brown was on his way out.

Although Brown made a nice run, finishing 8-4 and defeating the rival Oklahoma Sooners, that just doesn’t cut it at Texas.

Over the weekend, Brown announced that he will coach his final game in the Alamo Bowl against the Oregon Ducks.

The  quest for a new coach starts with new athletic director Steve Patterson, who the Longhorns recently hired away from the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Longhorns formed a committee to work together to find and hire Patterson and it appears Patterson is doing the same thing to find a new coach.

Louisville’s Charlie Strong and Baylor’s Art Briles are the current favorites.
