It would seem as if Anchorman 2 star Paul Rudd is already in the process of landing his next big role. According to The Wrap, Rudd is in negotiations with Buena Vista to play the role of Hank Pym, also known as Ant-Man, in the upcoming Marvel film.
Most recently, both Paul Rudd and G.I. Joe’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt were being considered for the role. There are two things that have attributed to Rudd’s casting. First of all, Rudd has really been flexing his comedic muscles as of late. Between his most recent appearance on Saturday Night Live and add in his performance as “man on the street” Brian Fantana in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, he has shown that he truly has the comedic prowess to fit right in to the role.
Also, according to The Wrap, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in the process of preparing for the Warner Bros. film Sandman, a DC property.
Ant-Man is being directed by Edgar Wright, who is known for his work on the film adaption of the graphic novel Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and most recently The World’s End with Simon Pegg.
Wright worked on the script along with screenwriter/director/actor Joe Cornish, who worked with Wright on Hot Fuzz.
Ant-Man is the story of biochemist Hank Pym who uses his latest discovery, a group of sub-atomic particles, to create a size altering formula. Through his work, he also develops an instrument that allows him to both communicate with and control insects.
Ant-Man is scheduled to kick off Phase 3 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and will follow shortly after the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
What do you think of Paul Rudd’s casting as Ant-Man? Do you think he is the right man for the job?
Ant-Man is scheduled to be released on July 21, 2015.
