While Athletic Director Jeremy Foley elected to give head coach Will Muschamp one more chance next season as head coach of the Florida Gators after a very underwhelming 2013 campaign, the pressure is on the coach to perform better than this past season, and part of that starts with the coaches underneath him.
Thursday, Florida took a step in a new assistant coaching direction with the hiring of Coleman Hutzler from the University of New Mexico to coach the outside linebackers and special teams.
This won’t be the first time that Hutzler will be on the Florida staff. He was a defensive and special teams assistant under Muschamp in his first season at the helm in 2011, and coached there in the same position the year prior under Urban Meyer.
Current New Mexico head coach, and former Notre Dame head man, Bob Davie spoke about the loss of one of his top assistants:
“I want to thank Coleman for his contributions as we began to build this program,” Lobos coach Bob Davie said. “He is a talented coach and I know he will continue to have success. I wish him the best of luck moving forward.”
