Consensus #1 Straw-weight in the world, Jessica Aguilar, is set to make her World Series of Fighting debut in January. The stakes have been raised, as her debut will also mark the promotion’s inaugural Women’s Straw-weight title.
At WSOF 8, Aguilar will meet Alida Gray in a fight that is sure to bring fireworks. Gray (4-0), will also be making her WSOF debut. She fought four times in 2013, finishing all of her opponents.
Aguilar (16-4) fights out of American Top Team. She has fought many of the top Strawweights in the world, and was formerly a Bellator fighter before they dropped all of the women on their roster. Aguilar most recently defeated Women’s MMA legend, Megumi Fujii, at Vale Tudo Japan.
Some may criticize World Series of Fighting for putting on a title fight between two women that have never fought for the promotion before, but the idea has worked for other promotions. At the end of the day, the stakes are raised for the fight and WSOF 8 now has two title fights.
World Series of Fighting 8 will take place on January 18th in Hollywood, Florida. The card is still being filled up, but here is an early look at what is on tap:
- Lewis Gonzalez vs. Justin Gaethje (Inaugural WSOF Lightweight Championship)
- Mike Kyle vs. Anthony Johnson
- Jessica Aguilar vs. Alida Gray (Inaugural WSOF Women’s Straw-weight Championship)
- Tyson Nam vs. Cody Bollinger
