After a twelve point victory against Lawson and his Nuggets on Wednesday evening, Durant suggested the former Tar Heel might not be the sexiest name out there, but still deserves a spot on the All-Star team.
“He should be (an All-Star), in my opinion,” Durant said, later explaining: “He’s not one of those sexy names like Russell Westbrook or Stephen Curry. He just started to become one of those guys you depend on as a point guard. He was behind Chauncey (Billups) his first few years, and he’s eased his way into the starting lineup. Now he’s turned into a star. So, give it a few more games and you’ll start hearing Ty Lawson’s name all the time because he’s having a great season.”
Of course, the endorsement does have some history behind it considering both Lawson and Durant have known each other since their prep years at Oak Hill Academy.
That said, Lawson is still among the elite talents at the point guard position in the NBA and being named to the All-Star game isn’t out of the question.
The five-year veteran is currently averaging 18 points and 8 assists through 22 games.
