Earlier on Thursday, news began circulating that Anchorman 2 star Paul Rudd had been cast as the largely unknown superhero Ant-Man. While no one doubted the news, everyone was waiting for Marvel to officially give us the nod and confirm the news, and that’s something that happened late on Thursday. Marvel president Kevin Feige officially confirmed Rudd as Ant-Man on Marvel’s official web site.
“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”
The news earlier in the day wasn’t doubted, as it’s something we’ve been hearing for weeks now but when it comes to Marvel, we can’t believe anything until it’s officially confirmed by Feige. We can thank Vin Diesel trolling the comic book movie world into thinking Marvel was giving him his own franchise for not believing anything that doesn’t come directly from Marvel.
But the news has been officially confirmed and Paul Rudd’s role as Ant-Man is set in stone for Marvel.
