The NFL Draft is still months away but most teams in the league are already looking ahead to to event and are scouting players now. This means that draft speculation has already started and one of the hottest names on the board is Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. Fox Sports One ra a segment where they speculated Manziel going No. 1 overall to the Houston Texans.
Fox Sports college football insider Clay Travis responded to the question by saying Manziel should indeed go first overall in the draft if the Texans get the pick and referenced the last time the Texans got a first overall pick as his reasoning. Travis points out that while Manziel isn’t as high on draft boards as Jadeveon Clowney or Teddy Bridgewater, 2006 first overall pick Mario Williams wasn’t as high as Reggie Bush or Vince Young but the Texans took him anyways.
Williams was brilliant with the Texans and their recent draft history proves that they know what they’re doing to build a team with young talent. Manziel is a hot name at the moment and he’s being discussed by every single team in the first round. There’s nothing here to suggest the Texans will even get the first overall pick in the draft but it’s no secret that their new head coach will want a new quarterback and the speculation about Manziel has already begun.
