If you haven’t seen or heard it already, Southern Illinois basketball head coach Barry Hinson is in a wee-bit of hot water after an epic post game rant led to him singling out his players and talking about how his wife doesn’t think size matters. Yeah, it was a pretty weird rant and it went all over the place, from Hinson saying how bad his guards were against Murray State on Tuesday night to how his wife scores a lot.
There’s plenty of classic moments in this rant by Hinson but it’s starting to cause a stir among those who are taking a stance against the head coach singling out college players. The guys on PTI yesterday dove into the topic and both Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon disagreed with Hinson calling out his players by name with Kornheiser even suggesting a fine called for.
The rant itself will appear on lists of the best rants in sports, but it won’t rank that high. In comparison, Hinson just threw a hissy fit and said some dopey things about his wife — who we are assuming he’s infatuated with given the number of times she came up in a postgame rant. Hinson has since apologized for singling out his player but not the rant itself, but the discussion over his handling of singling out players is an underlying theme here that’s starting to get more attention.
