Following an impressive first-round stoppage victory over veteran Paulo Thiago, rising UFC prospect Brandon Thatch was suspended for at least 180 days by the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission due to injuries to his ankle and shoulder.

While Thatch is one of the most exciting up-and-comers in mixed martial arts, he needed to take the time off to recover from his injuries and he has taken another step towards getting back to full health after undergoing surgery on Thursday.

Thatch passed along the word of his surgery on social media:

Thatch (11-1) has not lost since 2008 and he is currently riding a ten-fight winning streak.

Once he is healthy and ready to return to the octagon, it will be interesting to see what matchmaker Joe Silva has in store for him next. With a few more impressive wins, Thatch could be knocking on the door of the top ten.
