Just a few days before they get set to play in the Hawaii Bowl against Oregon State, Boise State has announced that potential starting quarterback Joe Southwick has been sent home for a violation of team rules, an act that will bring his career as a Bronco to an abrupt end.
According to the Idaho Statesman, both Southwick and redshirt freshman quarterback Nick Patti were suspended from Friday’s practice. Since the announcement of Southwick being sent packing back to Boise, though, Patti has been reinstated by the team.
Southwick has had an up-and-down year, including breaking his ankle back in October in a game against Nevada. He returned to play in the regular season finale and was possibly slated to start in Hawaii against the Beavers.
Now, it appears that Grant Hedrick will take the starting duties for the evening on Christmas Eve and Patti will back him up as the Broncos take on their Pac-12 opponent.
At this time, it’s not know what violation Southwick actually committed to be sent home from paradise.
