Remember this shot by Christian Laettner. A lucky bidder will be able to take home the jersey worn by Laettner when he made his famous shot against Kentucky in the Elite Eight of the 1992 NCAA Tournament.
According to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com, an online auction house called Lelands.com will be in charge of the auction. Lelands has verified the jersey belonged to Laettner through a notarized letter, and “up-close pictures” of Laettner taken during the game against Kentucky.
The reserve price, or the minimum bid that will be accepted, is $100,000. It is interesting the potential bidders will have to trust the jersey is authentic. 100 G’s for a jersey is no joke, and I am guessing Lelands.com is hoping a wealthy Duke alum who graduated around that time will cough up the dough.
What do you think about some of the outrageous prices for sports memorabilia? I’m not in the position to purchase a piece of sports history for hundreds of thousands of dollars, so I have mixed emotions about it. On the one hand, it would be pretty neat to have Laettner’s jersey, but I also think it would be a regrettable purchase later in life.
