The Ole Miss Rebels landed a great defensive commitment on Friday from that of four-star safety C.J. Hampton out of Meridian High School in Mississippi. According to 247 Sports, Hampton chose to stay in his home state instead of accepting offers from Florida State, Alabama and Arkansas.

While Hampton has been said to be committed to head coach Hugh Freeze and the Rebels for quite some time now, there were still some that thought he may have a change of heart. However, he put those doubts to rest on Friday night when, in front of a gathering of family and friends, Hampton chose an Ole Miss hat from the table in front of him, making it official.

Hampton will enroll early in Oxford in January.

After making the commitment, the defensive standout had this to offer up:

“I’m going to have to roll with the University of Mississippi,” Hampton said, wearing a houndstooth bow tie.

“There are great guys there (at Ole Miss). It’s a great program. The staff there…they work together and they are trying to build something there. Why not be a part of that and do something different.”

Hampton was the first commit of the Ole Miss 2014 class.
