The Seattle Mariners continue to revamp their roster and seem determined to land themselves an ace.
Rumors have leaked in recent weeks suggesting that the Mariners have entertained trade talks with the Tampa Bay Rays, attempting to acquire starting pitcher David Price.
Price, who is nearing the end of his contract has been rumored to be on the block, leading multiple teams to inquire about the former Cy Young award winner.
Unlike the vast majority of those clubs, the Seattle Mariners have a farm system stocked with talent – especially in the pitching department, but the Rays have their eyes set on Taijuan Walker, a prized Mariners prospect who they refuse to give up:
1 thing’s settled in price trade talk (says seattle person, “taijuan walker will be on our club”)
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik had already suggested that he expected Walker to remain with the club prior to any Price trade speculation and it appears that stance has not changed.
Walker is not the lone talented pitching prospect in the Mariners farm system, however, he appears to be the target of the Rays which could be a deal breaker in any trade.
