When you sign a player in free agency, you’re essentially signing his family. And a happy family means a happy player, right? At least – that’s the thought and it’s likely why the Yankees handed out tiny team issued jackets to the daughters of Carlos Beltran, who officially signed his contract with the Bronx Bombers Friday morning.
Beltran, who was introduced this morning brought his family along for the press conference and the Yankees, never missing a beat promptly plastered their logo over the children – great marketing because people like myself write about it.
Kiera and Ivana, Beltran’s young daughters were each presented with their own custom sized jacket – which I’m guessing wasn’t taken out of Beltran’s three-year, $45 million dollar deal.
Then again, maybe the jackets weren’t custom at all. In fact, they might just be extra stock from their recent Jacoby Ellsbury order.
What? No rimshot? Come on!
Wife Jessica wasn’t left out of the gift giving, receiving a bouquet of flowers from general manager Brian Cashman before the press conference wrapped up.
