Denver Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw knows Kobe Bryant very well. So when the perennial all-star went down in a game earlier this week against the Memphis Grizzlies, Shaw knew exactly what to look for.
“There’s a certain look that he has on his face when it’s a serious injury. He grabbed his knee and it looked like he looked across the floor at the trainer Gary Vitti. At that point, I thought it was something serious.”
Shaw shared the same hardwood for over a decade with Bryant as a player and assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. The two won five NBA Championships together.
“For him at this point, it’s kind of a devastating injury. They say six weeks, but who knows? At some point, Father Time always catches up with you. Even though he’s only 35 years old, he has years and years and years of wear and tear. I wish him the best.”
Bryant has only played six games so far this season.
