MLB rumors: Orioles not interested in Chris Perez

With the Grant Balfour deal falling through, the Baltimore Orioles are still in the market for a closer.

One player who won’t be filling that role though is Chris Perez, as the Orioles are reportedly not interested in the former Cleveland Indians closer.

Also, hearing it’s probably Fernando Rodney or in-house candidate as closer. #orioles not in on Chris Perez.

Despite a drying market for closers, it’s not exactly shocking the Orioles lack interest in Perez given his recent legal issues and less than stellar stats last season. Add in a relatively hefty salary command and it’s understandable why Perez remains in the free agent pool while many of the top closers have already found a new home.

That said – despite the Orioles having no interest in Perez, there will be a team desperate for a reliever who throws some money at the 28-year-old fireman. Whether or not he’ll be closing however is a different story as his iffy numbers may force him into a middle relief role.
