The Seattle Seahawks defense is undoubtedly one of the most dominant in the league and they have the confidence to go along with it. The spokeman for Seattle’s defensive pride is cornerback Richard Sherman, so it comes as no surprise that he is speaking out and delivering praise to one of his teammates.

When Sherman was asked who he believed should be the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year, Sherman pointed to his teammate in the defensive backfield, Earl Thomas.

I would have to give it to Earl,” Sherman said, via Seahawks.com.

“I think Earl is having a fantastic year. He’s flying around, tackling everywhere, forcing fumbles, getting interceptions. I don’t think there’s anybody out there playing better defense and I think our defense is No. 1 in the league. So usually the best quarterback with the best receivers isn’t punished for that, so don’t punish one of the best players on the best defense. So I think he should get it.”

Of course, Sherman did hint that he wouldn’t mind earning the honors himself.

“If there’s anywhere the defensive player of the year should be it should be in Seattle,” Sherman said. “Whether it’s myself or Earl.”

There are plenty of deserving candidates this season so it will not be an easy decision for the voters, but you can be sure the Seahawks corner will be speaking out if he or one of his teammates does not receive the honor.
