'Fast and Furious 7' release date officially moved to 2015, will retire Paul Walker's character

One of the questions we had in the wake of Paul Walker’s death at the end of November was what would happen to Fast and Furious 7? It obviously was pretty low on our list of things we worried about, as his family, friends, loved ones and his teenage daughter who no longer had a father lead off the list, but now that almost a month has passed, the inevitability of dealing with his real life death on screen has come up.

According to Vin Diesel, who released the last still image of Walker from Fast and Furious 7 on Sunday, the movie will be pushed back from summer 2014 to April 10, 2015.

There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come…

Fast and Furious 7 will be released…

April 10th 2015!

P.s. He’d want you to know first…

The Hollywood Reporter has stated that the movie is going through rewrites at the moment in order to retire Paul Walker’s character of Brian O’Connor for good. This doesn’t mean that his character will be killed off, rather it sounds like Walker’s character will be retired in a kinder way using existing footage that Walker has already shot.

There was a rumor that Walker’s younger brother Cody Walker would take on the role in the film, but for now the focus of the production is giving Walker and his character an appropriate send off that likely doesn’t involve killing his character as that’s just morbid and wrong. The movie has been pushed back though so director James Wan and his writer Chris Morgan have time to figure out the best way to wrap up Walker’s story in a fitting way.
