Gustav Nyquist could return for the Detroit Red Wings when they take on the New York Islanders on Monday. For a team that has been icing several AHL-caliber players over the last few weeks, the return of Nyquist is a timely one. Detroit’s forward core has been racked with injuries, and the team has been forced to rely on players like Riley Sheahan as top-six forwards.
They’ll likely get Nyquist back in the lineup on Monday, however.
#RedWings undecided on who will go back to minors. Decide Monday morning skate. Gustav Nyquist ready, Justin Abdelkader, Darren Helm maybes.

Nyquist hasn’t played since December 15. Detroit has gone 2-1 in his absence.
The 24-year-old has had problems sticking with the Red Wings this season, and has only played in 13 contests. He’s one of the most highly touted youngsters that the team has though, and he has the talent to be a difference maker on any given night. Given Detroit’s recent run of bad luck and losses, they can use all the offensive spark that they can get.
The team is slowly getting healthy though, and a few players that have missed games recently could return to action over the next few games.
