The Detroit Red Wings are slowly starting to get healthy. Gustav Nyquist will be back in the lineup tonight when the Wings take on the New York Islanders. He’s missed Detroit’s last three contests and hasn’t played since December 15 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He’s reportedly good to go now though.
#RedWings undecided on who will go back to minors. Decide Monday morning skate. Gustav Nyquist ready, Justin Abdelkader, Darren Helm maybes.

Getting Nyquist back will be a boost to a forward group that is currently made up of several AHL forwards. Players like Riley Sheahan have filled in admirably, but still need more seasoning with the Grand Rapids Griffins before moving up to the big league. Nyquist has done his time in Grand Rapids though, and can be a dangerous forward when on top of his game.
Through 13 contests in the NHL this season, Nyquist has four goals and four assists. He’s a creative forward that can help fill the void left by Henrik Zetterberg’s absence. If the Wings get Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm back as well, then the top-six could look very different than it has over the last few games.
