UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey appeared on FOX Sports Live on Sunday night to discuss her upcoming bout with Miesha Tate in the co-main event of UFC 168. Rousey discussed her rivalry with Tate that has helped to promote the fight, but there was one interesting nugget of information in the interview that caught the attention of mixed martial arts fans.
Rousey was asked by FOX Sports’ Charissa Thompson about her friend Nick Diaz and why he turned down the fight with Carlos Condit at UFC 171. Rousey was then asked whether or not she believed the former welterweight title contender would return to the UFC octagon and she shed some light on the issue.
“Nick’s been fighting for a really really long time,” said Rousey. “I’ve only been fighting for three years, I mean, he’s been fighting I think for over a decade now. This sport puts a lot of miles on you very quickly. If he feels like he needs a rest and to take a break, you can’t fight for anyone other than yourself. You can’t fight sooner than you feel like you should. It really is a life and death situation out there and you have to do it when you feel it’s right.”
When Rousey was asked about a potential Diaz return, she smiled and said, “Yea. I think he will.”
Many are hoping that Diaz returns to the welterweight division to give us another exciting welterweight contender and if Rousey is correct then everyone will be getting their wish.
