Sergei Gonchar has had a rough season for the Dallas Stars so far. In typical Gonchar fashion, it took him a while to find his scoring touch from the blue line. It seemed like he was finally starting to settle in for Dallas when he took a puck to the head on Saturday when the Stars took on the San Jose Sharks.
General manager Jim Nill spoke to reporters about Gonchar’s injury, and NHL.com reports that he had this to say:
He’s all right. He took a puck to the face and isn’t feeling well, so he has to stay out for a while probably.
Nill also said that the Stars wouldn’t recall anyone from their AHL affiliate to fill the hole left by Gonchar. The GM gave a rough timeline for the blueliner and said that he’d be out for at least a week while dealing with concussion-like symptoms.

The 39-year-old defenseman will have three days to recover during the NHL’s holiday break, while Dallas won’t play again until December 29. Through 35 contests this season, Gonchar has compiled 12 assists and no goals. He carries a minus-five rating on the year as well.
