NBA Trade Rumor: Magic intend to trade or waive Hedo Turkoglu

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Orlando Magic and Hedo Turkoglu appear to be headed towards a split in early January. The Magic have been playing younger players such as 21-year-old Tobias Harris or 20-year-old Maurice Harkless instead of giving the minutes to the 34-year-old.

The Magic are looking to trade the small forward, but there is a deadline of January 7th. If they can’t move him by that date the Magic are expected to waive him and it all comes down to finances. At this moment, only $6 million of his $12 million salary is guaranteed, but in order to owe him just $6 million, the Magic must waive him or trade him no later than 5 p.m. on that early January deadline date.

Technically the contract would become fully guaranteed on January 10th, but a waived player has 48 hours to clear waivers. Waiting past the seventh would make that contract guaranteed.

Obviously getting something in return for Turkoglu would be ideal, so expect them to be active sellers, or shoppers, in the market.
